5 Key Tools You Need to Be A Lash Tech

We’ll be the first ones to say becoming a lash tech is a flippin’ amazing job. You meet different people, with different stories every day (who sometimes become your besties), you get to make your clients feel comfortable and beautiful in their body, and you get to do something you love every single day. But the thing is, it’s not as simple as you think. There are key tools and steps you need to take to become a lash tech, let alone a GREAT lash tech. It’s not just a matter of a couple of good-quality lashes (although, this is super important). Here are a few key tools you need in your lash tech starter kit so you can become a good, no, GREAT, lash tech.

  • Cleansing Tools

While the application process primarily involves the detailed application of lash extensions onto your client’s natural lash line, a good application NEEDS to begin with a cleanse. Cleansing your client’s lashes at the beginning of the application ensures you have a clean palette to work with and reduces the risk of eyelash extensions falling out quickly, or infections such as Blepharitis. Your kit needs to include a Cleansing Shampoo to remove eye makeup residue and keep your client’s lash extensions clean and healthy. A Cleansing Brush will make the cleansing step much easier for you to apply the shampoo to your client’s lashes. Make sure you use a brush that is suitable for Gel or Shampoo cleansers.

  • Eyelash Extension Tweezers (curved + straight)

The application experience for your client (and for you) needs to be seamless and relaxing. For you to be able to efficiently apply lashes, you need the right tools. Cue, tweezers. Now, to be a great lash tech, you need to understand the different uses of straight and curved tweezers and how they can improve your lash application. Straight tweezers are best for classic lash applications and premade long stem fans – you can use them to isolate your client’s individual lashes and increase your precision and technique. Straight tweezers also double up as a brow removal tool. Bonus!

Curved tweezers can also be used for classic lash extensions but are mostly used for volume lash extensions. You can easily isolate lashes with semi-curved tweezers – too great of a curve will make isolating lashes awkward and more difficult for you. It’s imperative that you find a set of tweezers with just the right amount of curve. As Goldilocks would say, semi-curved tweezers are just right.

  • Eyelash Extension Pads

You might think a lash application only consists of application tools like lashes, tweezers and glue, but you need to also consider the entire experience for your client. Ask yourself how you can increase their comfort and ensure they feel relaxed? Eyelash pads are going to make all the difference for your clients and will also make the application easier for you. Eyelash pads are used to secure the bottom lashes during the application. The right eyelash pads are also infused with hydrating oils to soothe and relax sensitive skin.

  • Blue Eyelash Extension Tape

If you’ve added Eyelash Pads to your lash kit, then you need something to secure the pads down. A professional-grade tape is going to be your holy grail – trust us! Blue Tape is our go-to and works perfectly with eyelash pads. You need to ensure your tape is water resistant, silicone-based and comfortable so your clients with sensitive skin will not experience any sort of adverse reaction mid-application.

  • Eyelash Extension Glue Remover

Eyelash applications can get a little messy (especially when you’re first starting out). The worst thing you can do is let your client leave without cleaning up some of the excess glue around their eyes. To do this, you need a quality eyelash extension Glue Remover. Your glue remover needs to be gentle on the skin around your clients’ eyes and be effective, so you aren’t needing to harshly scrub away any excess glue.
